Facing History and Ourselves – Meeting Standards with Rich Content: Socratic Seminar and Argumentative Writing

This after school workshop will introduce you to exciting strategies for integrating writing and literacy strategies into social studies and humanities classrooms. We will help you meet the demands of state and national literacy standards in a way that is relevant to students. Participants will access strategies that support disciplinary literacy and argumentative writing within the context of Facing History's primary source materials. We will model how to use resources from the Literacy Design Collaborative and we will work with teachers in creating literacy-rich assignments and standards aligned assessments. This workshop will be co-facilitated by a Chicago Public School teacher. Illinois Educators can earn 2.5 Clock Hours for full participation in this course.
