Colorism in the Classroom
March 30, 2017 @ 05:30 PM - 07:30 PM|$5
A strong sense of self is important to academic success. Students who feel good about themselves are more likely to work harder and take risks to improve their learning. Too many students of color come to school with low self-worth because of their insecurities about the way they look. Colorism shows itself in the classroom in various ways. It has a negative impact on student behavior and learning. To combat colorism, we must first recognize it and take steps to help students understand and heal from the hurt caused by this insidious form of prejudice and discrimination. CPDUs will be awarded and snacks included.
