Building Meaning with Spare Parts: Four Undocumented Teenagers, One Ugly Robot and the Battle for the American Dream
March 15, 2016 @ 05:30 PM - 07:30 PM|FREE
Joshua Davis tells the story of four unlikely teenagers who become underwater robotic rock stars by defeating their competition, including MIT. Although the boys are victorious at the competition, the books follows them past high school graduation, showing how their struggles with immigration status greatly affect their trajectories. Readers follow along on a problem-solving trajectory in the sciences with the creation of the robot; in life, the young men figuring out to to live in the United States despite being undocumented; and in learning in general when resources are limited. The workshop will offer participants the opportunity to explore the text, its themes, as well as hands-on problem-solving activites.
