Alternatives to Holidays: Rituals and Celebrations with Young Children in ECE Settings

This beginner level course is designed for current Early Childhood Educators and Care Providers (ECEC) who are looking for practical strategies to support children with rituals, celebrations, routines without celebrating specific holidays. Participants will identify the the importance of ritual, routine, and celebrations for supporting development and relationships in early childhood. They will discuss the difficulties associated with cultural and religiously based holiday celebrations in group care settings. They will then learn practical strategies for building ritual, routine, and celebration that are appropriate for children from diverse backgrounds. Participants will practice their skills through role plays, video examples, and discussion. Completers will obtain 2.5 ISBE or INCCRRA contact hours.
